Wednesday Book Giveaway (#1 of 4!)
UPDATE:
The random number generator tells me that Casey is the Book Giveaway #1 recipient! Please stop by next Wednesday for Book Giveaway #2 of 4.
I want to know God and, as a parent, I want my children to know Him, too. Through the Bible with My Child is an outstanding resource for parents who want to teach their children the Bible. Even for those who are not parents, it can be helpful for a personal study plan.
I would really love to put this resource in someone’s hands. Leave a comment for the random-drawing giveaway! (I will draw a name on Thursday evening.)
And…one person will get the book, but everyone can get the book! The entire book in PDF is always a free download at Anchor-Cross.
Next Wednesday’s book giveaway:
Feeding Your Soul: A Quiet Time Handbook, by Jean Fleming. To sneak an early peek, visit NavPress where the entire Chapter 1 is available for preview.
**********
A word from today’s author…
The Motivation for Parent/Child Bible Training
by Charles Sharman, author of Through the Bible with My Child.
All loving Christian parents hope their children may one day be among the faithful. How does a child transform from cruelty to kindness, from selfishness to charity, from a rebel against Christ to a servant of Christ? Scripturally, we know many things influence the transformation: the Lord, prayer, knowledge, example, the Body, experience, etc. Biblical knowledge is core to the transformation. The Bible reveals our great God, our sinfulness, and Christ’s atonement better than any other work.
In our time and place, child Bible education has been largely left to churches. While weekly church programs have their place, particularly for the lost, they lack spiritual depth because of their time constraints. How good would your child be at math, if she only practiced it once a week? How good would your child be at violin, if he only practiced it once a week? With their time constraints, weekly church programs cannot impart deep Biblical knowledge.
The solution is simple and Biblical. Immediately following the Bible’s most important command (“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might”), the Lord commands:
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. (Deuteronomy 6:6–7)
God designed parents to be the primary faith-trainers of their children, and he designed the faith-training to be done often. It is the most important task given parents. When all is said and done, your child’s scientific achievement, professional achievement, or sports achievement matter nothing if you miss this one, most important task. Quit something, and make this the priority God intended it to be.

I think I would love to have this to read with my grandchildren. My children are all grown and my husband and I live in the same house with our youngest daughter, her husband and their 4 children, ages 8 to 13 months.
Sweet babies all, who have so many questions. I am blessed to be able to spend so much time with them. We had Bible school last week and Paige – 7, told me she learned that it is important to listen to Jesus. Blessings.

Hi! This is excellent material. I would love to have a copy to use with my son who is a reluctant writer. He has the skills for writing in place, but lacks the motivation. This resource looks wonderful for Bible study, and would give him additional practice with his writing at the same time.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Thank you for this offer! I am searching to implement family Bible time with mine in these days of summer. We have gotten too far from structure in the laziness of this season.
Blessings to you and yours.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:27 pm
What a generous offer! I would love to have this. I often feel so ill-equipped to share Jesus with my kids as I grew up in a home without Jesus. What a difference He has made in my life and the thing I long for the most is to be an instrument that God would use to show my kids the same thing. Thank you for promoting Him.
Blessings,
~ Cory =)

My oldest is 9 years old and we started “What the Bible is All About” in hopes to go through and with some commentary. My next 4 children, 7,6,5 and 8 months are not quite as savvy with the language, but are present for the listening…is this a resource that perhaps we may all benefit from? If so, I’d love to be part of the possible win! Thank you so much for your generosity to whoever wins. I think that everyone benefits from one’s graciousness! Thank you, Amy
July 22nd, 2009 at 8:54 pm

Wow, a design specifically for reading with children. How awesome. I have found our church outline to be somewhat challenging for the children.
I’m sure this would be a stellar resource to add to our “prayer closet” where we spend time with the Lord. PDF will do just fine until the book becomes available.
Thank you for the lead to this wonderful resource.

I have 5 grandchildren and I’d love to give this gift to their families. Off to find more copies!
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:11 pm
what can I say…tears welled up as I remembered this my ultimate desire…to share Him with my family… lost somewhere amidst the kitchen utensils…laundry baskets… paperwork…and carpooling… I read Ann & your posts and then last night it hit hard… His gentle call…how much we had not been eating His bread…a random verse on a paper found on the floor was like sweet honey to the soul of this family… as he called us back to His table…to dine on words that help us LIVE! As per your recommendation, I am using the copy of the book you mentioned online as a start. A hard bound copy might be better, and if not I know God will not let us wander too far again….Thanks for the signpost…Susan
