The Real Paul
(A High Calling Blogs Random Act of Poetry for L.L. Barkat’s poetry prompt to write a poem on “The Real…”)
A Type-A personality was he
and never of the Gospel was ashamed.
He boldly preached and boldly did proclaim
according to the vision he received.
He taught of Christ and many did believe,
and when he touched, the Holy Spirit came.
The great Apostle Paul! The very same
who also taught—and lived—humility.
What ailments came from soaking in the worst
of ocean’s waves? What pains from lash’s fall?
With bruises or in chains, he ran the race.
He said that of all sinners, he was first.
He knew he was unfit for his own call,
inadequate without the Father’s grace.
(This poem largely inspired by conversations with my friend Jean.)

I love it. You really bring him to life, Monica! Now, that’s “the Real” thing.
