Ancient
The little mountain town
hill behind Horsefly Road
where a white trail horse took me
(they named him Chalk)
seems as recent as the gravel
driveway and the tennis balls
Grandpa throws for his yellow lab,
Molly Brown.
But Grandma’s country
voice told us, up on their side
of that hill, we could turn over
rocks and shale, and maybe we’d find
a fossil.
And I know the hill
behind Grandma and Grandpa’s
is ancient.

I love the white horse, the trail, the juxtaposition of now and then, the shell from long ago in the photo…

great imagery,
except for thinking your past is becoming ancient.
or was that just me? feeling old today

trilobite? our little valley is an ancient river bed. people tell me they are all over around here. I’ve never looked for one, so i don’t know. but it’s pretty cool to think it: ancient life, all over my backyard.

ted’s poem,
it was personal, and simply wonderful.
and…in writing it and sharing it with us, he has shared himself and the Love that comes with communing.
having ted take part reminds me of two things, how special all of you are…and the importance of listening.
