Reflection

Whenever I look into his eyes
I see not only the window he looks through
but I see, too, myself.

Zzzzzip!

Sometimes I ask
for wisdom
or protection from sin
or greater trustworthiness
and the Lord gives answer:
“Ssshhh!”
A truly wise person uses few words.
Too much talk leads to sin.
Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.
A gossip goes around telling secrets,
but those who are trustworthy can keep a confidence.

Backpacking

A vertical from sea level to where we stand
measures better than 12,000 feet. We begin
at the elevated backbone dividing a continent. Here
a raindrop falls and makes its way
to the Pacific Ocean. Another raindrop landing
just a little bit east takes a very different
course to the Atlantic. Just a small step
in the beginning [...]

Invitation

Honey pot sits
Sweet gold
Still hidden
Awaits
Calling
Hoping you will come

Won’t you come?
Come to the sweet
Taste
But first you must
Open
The pot
Won’t you open
To the richness
The sweet goodness?

Ah! now you
See
And the invitation
Continues
Now, go beyond
Mere looking
And taste

Won’t you meet with God in His Word today?
Don’t leave it there unopened, untasted.
Taste . . .
How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter
than [...]

Mosaic

(For the High Calling Blogs PhotoPlay photography prompt from HCB Photo Editor Claire Burge. Read Claire’s prompt here.)

For the shards
Sharp after breaking
Cracked, shattered pieces
Worse than flawed
Broken
The Potter gathers and makes
Whole, restored,
Useful vessel of His beauty

Fire Dance

(New at High Calling Blogs: PhotoPlay photography prompts from HCB Photo Editor Claire Burge! Read Claire’s first prompt at the bottom of this post.)

Blur of the fire
getting close
but the fire far away
does not burn
enough
to refine.
So I walk in the fire,
close to it,
myself
a blur,
and if I consider
it all joy,
the fire-walk
becomes
a dance.
